April 2025 Campout
Longhorn Caverns Wild Cave Tour


Waivers- waivers must be filled out prior to showing up.
I. Campout Theme:
Wild Cave Tour
II. Departure Time and Place:
We will be leaving Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church at 6:30.
III. Camp
We will be camping At Russell State Park on Lake Georgetown, we have campsites 17,18, and 19. The gate entrance lock combo is 1335.
IV. Transportation:
We will travel by car for this campout.
V. Return Time:
Our goal is to depart Russell Park by 8:30 A.M. We should return to the Otto Middle School area around around 12pm .
VI. Food:
Scouts will be having dinner prior to showing up or on the road. Patrols will be meal planning for the weekend.
- Saturday morning- hot breakfast
- Saturday lunch – Sack lunch or lunch in town
- Saturday dinner- Hot meal
- Sunday breakfast- grab and go breakfast
VII. Personal Equipment List:
Long-sleeved shirt, Long pants, Closed-toe shoes with good traction, Towel for cleaning up, Change of clothes & shoes. This is just for the Cave Tour. Helmets, gloves and knee pads will be provided by the Caverns.
Necessary Gear:
- Class A uniform
- Raingear
- Light Jacket
- Closed Toed shoes and Hiking Boots
- Troop Hat
- 2 sets of shorts or pants
- 2 shirts (class B or equivalent)
- 3 sets of underwear
- 3 pairs of socks
- Tent
- Sleeping bag, (will be 80’s during day and 50’s at night)
- Sleeping pad
- Day Pack for Hiking
- Mess Kit
- Spork or spoon
- Flashlight/Headlamp with extra batteries
- 1-liter Personal Water bottle
- Trash bags
- Personal first aid kit
- Towel
- SUNSCREEN!
Recommended Gear:
- Extra pair of shoes (lightweight)
- Extra pair of clothes to change into after the cave tour
- Toiletries/Personal hygiene items
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
Optional Gear:
- Camera
- Camp stool or camp chair
- Lip Balm
VIII. Cost:
The will be $38 for the scouts and $88 for the adults plus the food for the weekend.
IX. Weather:
Looks like the weather will be great so far with highs in the 80’s and lows in the mid to upper 50’s.
X. Schedule:
Friday April 11th, 2025
- 6:30 pm. – Leave the Church
- 10:00 pm. – Arrive at Camp
- 11:00 pm. – Lights out
Saturday April 12th, 2025
- 7:00 am. – Reveille
- 8:00 am. – Breakfast
- 9:30 am. – Leave Camp
- 12:00 pm. – Lunch in town or sack lunch
- 1:30 pm. – Longhorn Caverns Safety Briefing
- 5:00 pm. – Leave Longhorn Caverns
- 6:30 pm. – Dinner
- 8:30 pm. – Campfire Program
- 10:30 pm. – Lights out
Sunday, February 16th, 2025
- 7:00 am. – Reveille
- 8:30 am. – Grab and Go Breakfast and Departure
- 10:30 pm. – Arrive at Otto
XI. Miscellaneous Notes:
TRAVEL TIME
- From Plano it is 3hrs away to Russell Park and then 1 hr to Longhorn Caverns.
NOTES ON TRIP
The Wild Cave Tour at Longhorn Caverns is 3hrs long with an average temperature in the 60’s. This is an awesome cave adventure that has always been a favorite. We can also get in a scenic hike before the tour is we want.
